Since launched in Lille on October , 2004, the New Trends has made an over one year long voyage, calling at Hong Kong, Tokyo, Cork and Melbourne, and finally anchored at its final destination, Anyang, Korea.
Anyang is a city with a population of 600,000, located at a one-hour car ride from Seoul. The City of Anyang has organized the Anyang Public Art Project (APAP) at Anyang Resort located in the valley, and the New Trends of Architecture exhibition has been held at Anyang Culture and Art Center in the central city as a special program of APAP since October 21. Fram Kitagawa, Secretary General of the New Trends, acts as Commissioner for APAP and persuaded the Mayor of Anyang, Dai Shin Joong to host the exhibition. He attempted to reinforce the mayor's intention to regenerate the city by means of art and architecture through taking advantage of the network the New Trends has built up for five years. |

It is not exaggerated that APAP demonstrates the results of the New Trends in a visible way. Lee Yong Chul, Artistic Director of APAP chose about 90 artists and architects from 25 countries, who include seven architects participating in the three editions of the New Trends as the commissioners and the exhibitors; Alvaro Siza, the commissioner of the first edition, designed the first museum in Anyang, which will be completed in January 2006, and MVRDV, whose principal, Winy Maas will be the commissioner of the forth edition, designed a gigantic spiral observatory on the top of a hill. Sami Rintala (1st edition), John Körmeling (1st edition), Didier Fiuza Faustino (3rd edition), ELASTICO (3rd edition), and Kengo Kuma (3rd edition) have created small structure such as furniture and pavilions which are placed along the river or the trekking routes of the Anyang valley.
